Bastille
The Bastille was constructed in 1370 as a fortification to protect Paris from British attack. It was later made into a garrison. Bastille was used as a state prison around the 17th century. The day it was attacked by an angry and aggressive mob looking for weapons is seen as the beginning of the French Revolution. The mob (French revolutionaries) stormed and destroyed the Bastille, killing all the prison guards and putting their heads on spikes.
July 14th is Bastille Day and is celebrated as a national holiday in France.
